Starting in July, most residents who own their homes will enjoy lower property tax rates. The updated Maui County Real Property Tax rates for the upcoming fiscal year have been announced, bringing reduced rates to many homeowners. 

Property is classified based on its highest and best use. Properties receiving home exemptions, condominiums, permitted bed and breakfasts and permitted transient vacation rentals are exceptions. Condominiums are classified upon consideration of their actual use — Non-owner-occupied, Commercial, Short-term/Vacation rental, Long-term rental (new classification), Timeshare, or Owner-occupied.

At the very beginning of Kihei town’s entrance and just past Maalaea, there is a serene oasis of natural beauty that makes everyone pause: the Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge.
